MDS INSTALLS A MONSTER M820 ROCK TROMMEL IN SINGAPORE
Earlier in the year MDS International was approached by a Singapore based construction company who had a major construction project, in Singapore, preparing a site for building office blocks. They are using blasts to clear the site, remove and sell the rocks for sea defence projects and therefore needed a reliable and robust trommel to meet the high rock demand for the application. Quality and delivery time were of paramount importance, and while there was competition for the project, MDS International was the clear choice due to their strength in both areas. The M820 was completed in May, tested, and shipped to Singapore where it was professionally installed by MDS personnel.
Production Requirements Four different grades of granite rock is required. Granite, by nature, is very abrasive and therefore is more demanding on a trommel than other types of rock. The size requirement for the project is as follows: 0-160mm / 0-10kg; 160-290mm / 10-60kg; 290-490mm / 60-300kg; and larger than 490mm / 300-1000kg.
Customer Satisfaction and Design MDS International Sales and Engineering teams liaised with the Company's Project Team and proposed a bespoke trommel to meet the demands this project required. MDS provided expert opinion and suggested the robust M820 Static Trommel that can handle rocks as big as 1000mm. The M820 Modular Trommel was designed around a key feature - strength. Lined with AR/Hardox throughout the hopper the M820 can handle a whole dump of the highly abrasive granite from a 40 tonne truck, again with rocks as big as 1 metre posing no issue. The trommel drum of the M820 is also made from Hardox steel, its robust, fully welded design was optimised for abrasive granite rocks and has been designed so that each section is easily replaceable with different sized sections, for use in future jobs.
The M820 boasts a powerful CAT 7.1 engine that powers the whole system including the hydraulics, hopper and drum. In 2018 MDS made a shift to a more modern system and now uses a Fully Digital Control System which is reliable and easy to use and features full control functions and system diagnostics. With this new type of control system on board the M820, any engineer on site can easily understand and control the trommel with minimal training.
The M820 also has a radio remote control so that it can be operated remotely by site staff, a high productivity rate of up to 750tph and precise sizing/specification ensuring a very happy customer and crew.
