A jaw crusher is a primary crushing machine used to break down large rocks, concrete, and demolition materials into smaller, manageable sizes. It is commonly used in mining, quarrying and recycling applications as the first stage of the crushing process.
It works by compressing material between two plates (jaws) – one fixed and one moving. As the material is squeezed, it fractures and exits at the desired size.
The typical reduction ratio of a jaw crusher ranges from 4:1 to 6:1, depending on the machine design and material being processed. This means the crusher can reduce material to roughly one-quarter to one-sixth of its original size in a single pass.
